We are no longer adding new patients to our waitlist. We cannot provide any letters for PCS.
Central Oahu Speech is closing.
We have truly valued our time in the community and are grateful to have had a positive impact on over 220 patients during the 3 years we have been open. From May 2022-June 2025 we have provided over 7,082 individual treatment sessions. We will continue to offer high quality in-person care for our current clients only until our full closure in early 2026.
Reasons we are closing:
The State of Hawaii charges us sales tax (GET) on our care - which we cannot pass to patients (and wouldn't want to!) and that insurance does not cover. That's 4.7% on every single dollar we bring in - no deductions allowed. In 2024 the state passed a bill to exempt many healthcare providers from this tax - they left out PT/OT/ST despite a high rate of letters asking them to include us.
Federal funding is continuing to cut Medicare (in 2025 we lost $40.00 per eval and $1.20 per treatment) and it is highly likely that deeper Medicare and Medicaid cuts will be enacted soon.
Cost of Living is continuing to go up. While our income from insurance companies continues to decrease, the cost of literally everything else (from minimum wage to office rent to secure software) is going up.
Because of these factors, it is no longer sustainable to offer patient-centered care that includes ethical billing practices at the level of service that we strive to provide.
Thank you to every family that placed their trust in our care. We have been honored to help.
